"Some keep the Sabbath going to Church"

Some keep the Sabbath going to Church-

I keep it, staying at Home-

With a Bobolink for a Chorister-

And an Orchard, for a Dome-

Some keep the Sabbath in Surplice-

I just wear my Wings-

And instead of tolling the Bell, for Church,

Our Sexton-sings.

God preaches, a noted Clergyman-

And the sermon is never long,

So instead of getting to Heaven, at last-

I'm going, all along.

In Emily Dickson's poem "Some keep the Sabbath going to Church" she writes about the speaker who is a faithful Christian; however, the speaker in Emily's poem does not attend Church to praise God. The speaker reveals the truth of the Church and the people who attend Church. The speaker uses his/her methods of learning the path of Chirst to show the flaws in the Church community and how they are a poor example of Christains. The speaker suggests people do not need fancy a Church and excellent choirs to praise and worship God; instead, the Church community needs people with the want and need to learn the divine path. I think Emily Dickinson wrote her poem "Some keep the Sabbath going to Church" to release some frustration she has with the Church in the town and how the Church community is a sad excuse for Christians. Also, Emily wrote her poem to show how she is still a faithful Christian as she maintains in her home and has no worries she will go to Heaven when she dies.
